If you have JDK 7 or later versions installed on your system and you want to restore Apple Java 6, then those JDK versions need to be uninstalled first.
Download the latest Java from the java.com web site. Up until now, Apple has its own version of Java, which is out of step with the Windows and Linux versions. It seems that the installation worked fine. Browse other questions tagged osx java or ask your own question.
