Mostly person, sometimes stuff. Seriously after A DECADE we are still dealing with slow indexing and crap like this. But I've noticed this with a lot of my other folders…Windows wanting to display everything as a picture when I have mostly documents. In then loads without an issue after waiting for almost two full minutes.

Have you looked into the issue that maybe this is because of malware that is slowing down Windows Explorer when launched from the taskbar icon? Really horrible UI. The problem with this view is that it tries to generate thumbnails for all the files in this folder, even if they're not pictures. I must be a masochist for the years I've been enduring the slow sort problem in the download directory. Immediately solved the problem. The "Default Programs" panel in the Control Panel is extremely slow to load and if any changes are made the refresh is similar.
